I'm an awful blogger

I am sorry for my lack of diligence. I haven't been very good at posting anything. 

In my defense, I have been extremely busy. Children not doing homework, doctor visits, orthodondist appointments, sudden influx if orders, and of course my day job. 

I wanted to post a few pics of things I've been working on. I have a pattern in the works at the moment too. 😊

This one is in love! Lawd Jesus she's going to be the death of me. 😳

This one started out as an order and ended up as my own design. I'll be writing up the pattern very soon! 

And of course there's decorations to put up! 

 These I am working on for a dear friend.

They are working up so cute!! 

This cowl was made out of necessity.

I was away for work and didn't expect the sudden temperature drop. Thank goodness I brought yarn :)

This was a request from a friend at church to go in a Samaritan's Purse Shoebox for Children! Now I have an order for this one too :)

These boot cuffs I made for the girl child. She thinks she's something else :)

 Bunches of beanies for the Women's Pregnancy center to be donated by my Church. 

And finally....

My sweet boy was baptized. Probably the proudest moment of my life and extremely emotional for the whole family.

So, that's were I've been. I will be posting that pattern soon!!

Success in yarn dying!

Good morning! 

I've been busy as of late with my personal life and real job. I apologize for not posting anything...

I wanted to share my success with dying my cotton yarn! 

I am pretty sure I'll be doing more of this!

 

First, I washed it. Making sure I had a clean "palette" to work with. 

Then I made certain to rinse it very well, leaving behind no soap residue. I used the blue Dawn dish detergent. I figured it works on oil covered ducks surely it won't harm my yarn. :)

Next, I filled a stainless pot with hot water and added the dye packet.

I wanted a variegated result so I only put a portion of the yarn into the pot.

Using a wooden spoon I slightly stirred the dye and yarn, making sure the yarn was completely saturated. I then left it to soak for about 30 mins. 

After rinsing in cold water for about 15 mins to make certain I got out any left over due I hung it over a clothes hanger and let it dry for about two days.

I was extremely pleased with the results!

The dye I used was Tulip fabric dye in the powder pouches. It's the same stuff you use to tye dye t-shirts. I have since dyed two more skeins and am using them for washcloths. :) 

Trial and error: Yarn Dyeing

Ok so I've been itching to dye my own yarn. I went out and bought four skeins of acrylic only to discover it's pretty difficult to hand dye. 

So, I dug out a cone of cotton that I've had for ages. 

I washed it.

I rinsed it.

Then I proceeded to dye it. Now, I'm using food coloring and the nice lady in the YouTube tutorial said use vinegar. You can imagine what my house smells like. However, ain't nere a soul eatin' greens up in here today. 

Apparently, you are only supposed to let it come to a boil. I did not. This my friends is what I ended up with...

It is a very pretty shade of green though right??

You'd think after it sat in dye over night the end result would be a lusicous shade of green...wrong.

The good thing is this was fun. I'm going to try again this weekend. It turns out cotton yarn only accepts fiber reactive dye. Like the stuff you use to tye dye tshirts. Animal fibers, like wool, alpaca and mohair, are the only yarns that accept food coloring and kool aide.

 As far as acrylic goes...well I probably won't be dying acrilyc. 😊

The Tapestry

I promised I would post a picture of the completed project. 

I learned a few things during this process and I had a lot of fun. The finished product turned out nice but it was missing something ...

So I added some embellishments. I realized that my graph was somewhat "boxy" and discovered how to make this image look more fluid. I'll save that for next time. 

She needs a pillow to match I think!!😜

The other love of my life!

This is my main man and my crochet partner. He keeps me warm and loves me no matter what!

My first go at tapestry crochet (graphghan)

OK, so after I discovered graphghans I was excited to start one! 

But I know me and when 

I jump in head first I tend to make mistakes and then get bored. 

So, I decided to try a trial tapestry until I got the hang of it... before I started a huge afghan project that would end up taking me two years to make!

(I have been working on a blanket for the Old Man for going on three years now!)

My Ladybug is really into music and plays flute so we decided to make a tapestry to hang in her room. 

This is what we came up with:

A treble clef worked in grey and hot pink to match her room.

This is about halfway through. At this point we took a trip to Florida to see my Big Baby graduate high school so it was put on hold.

Here is where we are today!

Just a few more rows to go and a few embellishments and Viola! One lovely tapestry to hang on Ladybug's wall! :)

I will post the completed project soon. 

Now it's time to pop in Sherlock and get this baby finished!

Chevrons and babies

Good morning all!

I wanted to share these baby blankets. I made a chevron for my nephew and ....

Then the requests started coming in! I made this one for a sweet little boy...

It is by far my favorite. I wasn't sure about the colors at first, but I absolutely love how it turned out!
